This new version has soft jersey knit wool inside (whereas the older styles have cotton inside). The soft jersey knit wool inside is comfy and means less wicking and much less washing.  Nice!!

Disana Boiled Wool Sleeping Bag - wearable blanket. GOTS certified for purity and safety. Made in Germany.  Unlike other wool sleep bags, it does not contain silicone or polymer resins. Soft wool jersey interior helps keep things dry. Wool is naturally temperature-regulating for a good sleep.  TOG value 1.7  Weight 420 g/m²

Size 1,  60 cm,  1 - 6 months,  Length 23.6"

Size 2,  80 cm,  6 - 18 months,  Length 31.5"

Size 3,  100 cm,  18 months to 3+ years

Disana wools are made from fine merino wool are ideal for meeting the high warmth needs of babies and toddlers. Pure merino wool traps thousands of tiny air bubbles between the fibers, forming an insulating layer and preventing body heat from escaping. This keeps wool clothing warm without overheating.

We are convinced that our organic wool has its own unique "vibrancy," which can be felt when wearing our disana clothing. This vibrancy has a stimulating, but also calming and relaxing effect on the wearer of wool clothing.  Disana uses only the finest wool from merino sheep in our disana products. The hair of this breed of sheep, with a diameter of just a few micrometers, is so thin that it cannot stand up on its own. This means that the wool hairs always lie flat and only touch the skin with their long sides, not with the prickly fiber tips. This is a truly "subtle" difference from many other types of wool.

Note from Karen: I love the purity of the fabrics and that is isn't superwash. The warmth of boiled wool is not at all like sweaty polyester. Wool breathes and regulates body temperature. I am convinced that my babies sleep better in wool and natural fibers, perhaps because they are neither too hot nor too cold in it. This really does have that Goldilocks effect of "just right". There is something amazing and superior about merino wool. This is not intended as a diaper cover. It is clothing.

Don't confuse this with thin, lightweight washable wool sacks. This wool is more substantial. I keeps its shape and lays where it ought to be as baby moves around. It contains a lot of wool.  The weight is just right for both warmth, breathability and a feeling of security. Babies really do soothe easily in wool!

The front zipper opens up all the way for easy access to baby. The top of the zipper is covered. Soft organic wool jersey interior helps keep things dry. Made without sleeves for freedom of movement.

Hand wash only. Made in Germany.

All of our stock has the zipper cover near the baby's chin. These are much nicer than they look in the pictures. Grey shown on the baby is size one.

What is Boiled Wool?  Boiled refers to the way the wool is processed. It is not the same as "superwash" wool which involves chemicals and coatings. Boiled wool is a versatile fabric that has been used for centuries.  Boiled wool is created by a process called fulling, which involves washing and agitating the fabric in hot water. This process causes the wool fibers to shrink and interlock, resulting in a denser wool that is soft and not itchy.

GOTS certified wool and organic cotton means no worries about safety.

  • Warmth: Boiled wool is an excellent insulator yet it doesn't get too hot because it breathes
  • Breathability: allows moisture vapor to escape
  • Water resistance: The interlocked fibers of boiled wool create a natural barrier that is resistant to water penetration. This helps keep sheets dry in case of a leak.
  • Durability: The fulling process makes boiled wool more durable and more resistant to pilling. Pass this lovely item down to future children.
  • No polymer resins:  Wools that can be machine washed on warm have been processed in a different way than this item.  With the other kind, the fibers may be coated with a thin polymer resin or the fibers have been treated with chlorine to remove their scales. The polymer resin on superwash is likely a thin coating of a plastic-like material applied to the wool fibers in order to prevent it from felting when washed.  Boiled wool is not coated. It is the real deal. Disana GOTS certified wools must be hand washed.

Washing is infrequent. Hand washing is easier than it may seem.  I, Karen, really enjoy hand washing this lovely garment once in a while. Wash only if very soiled, otherwise just air out and re-use it.  That's even easier than machine washing. If there is a leak and the cotton interior gets wet, just turn it inside out and rinse the cotton out well. It's not that hard and you can enjoy that the sheets stayed dry.

Warm boiled wool on the outside, soft organic grey jersey knit wool inside. Wool is very good at balancing out the temperature; you are usually not too warm or too cold wearing it. An extra fine organic cotton lining on the inside allows the child to sleep in peace. Thanks to the long zip in the front, the sleeping bag can be opened wide. This makes it easier to place your child inside when she is asleep. A priceless advantage for little ones after a long day of adventures, play and discovery.

Note from Karen:  Green Mountain Diapers does not sell anything made with superwash wool. Why? Purity. Coating wool with silicone or polymer resins is not the same as boiled wool. Besides, when I wash a product with superwash treatment, I can smell the chemical odor. (My very sensitive sense of smell is my "superpower"). Plus, I enjoy hand washing wool. It doesn't need to be done often, but it is satisfying and enjoyable when I do hand wash my wools. If I'm going to choose natural wool, I want it to actually be a natural fiber, not just made from a natural fiber that has then been chemically processed, coated with silicone or polymer-something-or-other and changed.

Great story telling, but not for everyone
WARNING: THERE WILL BE SPOILERS THROUGHOUT THIS REVIEW. I found this book to be a really great read. I have been away from comics for a little while now and decided to pick this up after hearing Scott Snyder's interview with Kevin Smith on Fat Man on Batman. I am a fan of the dark style for Batman and this is one of my favorite books now. Granted I've been away for a while so I don't know much of the other stories (I plan on reading a lot more), but this book was an instant favorite. I will admit there are a few things I disliked at first, like Dick Grayson taking the mantle of the Bat but I soon warmed up to him. I'll mention a bit of the storyline now: Dick Grayson is now the Batman after the events of Infinite Crisis. He tries to fit into this new lifestyle as being the Bat and living in Bruce's penthouse. He feels uneasy and restless. So once trouble arises, he goes out as Batman to investigate (same old thing). He gets into this kind of social gathering (disguised as someone else) for the wealthy who purchase items once owned by Gotham's most notorious villains. Now the guy running the show knows he is Batman and tricks him, having some sort of toxin enter his body to make him fear everything around him. While all this is going on, Commissioner Gordon is out on patrol and learns that his son is back in town. Ever since James Jr. was a baby, he couldn't feel empathy. So whenever someone would mess with him, he would go after then ans torture them (this is where things get twisted). Long story short, the reader finds out that it was Gordon's behind all of the crimes recently commit to get back at Batman (Dick). There are also apparences by the Joker, Tim Drake, Barbara Gordon and Sonia Zucco (daughter of Tony Zucco, the man who killed Dick's parents). Now I will say this book is pretty amazing, but like I mentioned in the title, this one isn't for everyone. This book is kinda graphic and has gore elements in it. Not to mention the use of psychotic themes and characters. I can see how some people can get disinterested in that. And the story does jump around a little so it can get a bit difficult to follow. But all in all, it is great storytelling. If dark story-telling is your thing, I recommend checking this one out. The dialog of the characters seem so natural and so is their development. The inclusion of Gordon's son was such a wonderful experience, and not only that but to have him a little twisted in the head was incredible in my opinion. Like they have said before, having this character be twisted, he is a perfect counter-part to both Gordon and Dick; Dick is smiling and care for other people while James Jr. cannot do this, and to Gordon, his son is the one case he cannot solve. Anyways, I loved everything about it and has even inspired me to get back into the comic book genre. I hope my review helped you decide to check this book out.

A Great Batman Story. Should be in the top Five.
Scott Snyder is an amazing writer and his grasp of the Batman lore and mythos is pretty cool. I am a Batman fan. He is without question my favorite superhero. I especially like to read Batman when he is written well and the mythos of the character are seen as assets to the narrative as opposed to a liability. Given the long history of the character and his supporting cast, there are only a handful of writers who have been able to develop the core of who the character is. Snyder does no compromise that in his work. The Batman in Black Mirror is his adopted son and protege Richard 'Dick' Grayson who was the first Robin the Boy Wonder and later Nightwing. Grayson replaced the original Batman Bruce Wayne when he "died" and this story takes place after Bruce makes his return from the "dead". This story should be on the top five lists of Batman tales. It is just that good. I think Scott Snyder will go down as one of the best Batman writers ever. The story is awesome and stunning. I highly recommend you pick this up especially if you are fan of Batman. You can read this as stand alone tale but if you want some background on Dick Grayson's tenure as Batman check out Those were written by Grant Morrison. I can't say enough about Scott Snyder. If you are a current comic book fan I highly recommend his current run on Batman. (With Bruce Wayne back as Batman). That is proving to be an awesome run. Often in the pantheon of Batman writers we tout Frank Miller as the pinnacle because of Batman Year One. I think Scott Snyder is going to be a threat to that crown when it is all said and done. This was a great book and its worth your money. It's not typical and predictable. I appreciate a writer who honors the mythos and creates something fresh and different. 5 stars for this book. Pick up this hardcover before it is sold out. Trust me it will be.I am sure it will be issued in paperback but his hardcover will be a great collectible.

Scott Snyder and Co. knock it out of the park
Going into this book, I was pretty apprehensive. I knew that it was a story that came as a direct of result of Grant Morrison's trainwreck of an arch that included Batman RIP and I knew that it had Dick Grayson as Batman instead of actual Batman Bruce Wayne. So the build up was awful, but man, if this isn't one of the finest Batman stories ever penned. Fair warning: this thing is BLEAK. Possibly the darkest Batman story I've ever read. The oppressive atmosphere is captured beautifully in the artwork (alternately Jock and Francavilla). It contains easily the most disturbing panel ever in a Batman comic and I'm honestly hard pressed to think of another one, period. In short, the artwork is spectacular and is the worth the price of admission alone. However, it's the writing that will have you hooked from page one. When I first received this in the mail, I casually picked it up, expecting to flip through and read it later. As soon as I started the first page, though, I couldn't put it down until it was done. The whole thing is just so spectacular. My misgivings about Dick Grayson as Batman completely evaporated when I got further in. Dick Grayson makes an excellent Batman, and what's more, it feels like Dick Grayson being Batman is actually essential to the story. This isn't an instance where it could have just as easily been Bruce Wayne in the cowl, it HAS to be Dick Grayson. Not only does Dick Grayson get a chance to out-Batman even Bruce Wayne, it could very well be the best James Gordon story ever written. Him struggling with his son's problems (I don't want to delve too much into the plot for fear of spoilers) can at times be genuinely heartbreaking, and adds a lot of depth to a character that's more often that not portrayed as Batman's errand boy (even more so than Robin, sometimes). So basically I was going into this expecting a good, not great, story to tide me over until the new Scott Snyder Batman New 52 trade comes out, and instead got what is easily one of the finest Batman stories ever written. I will never doubt Scott Snyder (or Dick Grayson) ever again.
